WebFibroepithelial polyps are benign epithelial tumours of the oral cavity. They are considered more of an inflammatory rather than a neoplastic condition. They arise due to chronic irritation by a sharp tooth or a dental prosthesis. The lesions are usually small but sometimes can present as large masses. References (advertising) The cause is usually pressure from the flange of a denture which causes chronic irritation and a hyperplastic response in the soft tissues. Women during pregnancy can also present with an epulis, which will resolve after birth.
