Sludge on oil cap

On gas V8 engines it is usually caused by leaky intake manifold gaskets, but I don’t know on these Cummins. I This may be why the previous owner got rid of it, as it was probably an expensive fix. Webb29 nov. 2024 · Sometimes it appears on the dipstick. Purely down to condensation. As an ex-Stag owner you know you’ve got problems when the coolant level drops and you can’t see any leaks. Normally you’ll see white smoke if very bad and the temperature gauge will normally read higher than normal.

It's the first time I've had the filler cap off otherwise I'd have noticed it sooner. Surely not a good sign.....hope to god the head gasket hasn't gone already.
